Those familiar with the previous four books in Scott's mythological series will be pleased to know this title hits the ground running and never slows. Twins Sophie and Josh have been separated, and the end of the world is near. Shakespeare, Joan of Arc, and other immortals are 10,000 years in the past; now John Dee, Machiavelli, and Virginia Dare prepare to destroy San Francisco. Narrator Paul Boehmer's energy never flags as he portrays a large cast of characters. There's such a diversity of ages, nationalities, genders, and intentions that he could easily go over the top, but instead he exhibits great restraint and gives a lively, confident performance of this mystical adventure.
