A USA TODAY BESTSELLER
Her father was the town detective. Her mother its most notorious criminal. Now the secrets of Mirror Lake are coming to the surface...and changing everything. "[A] stunning psychological thriller from one of the most insightful writers around" (CrimeReads), don't miss the latest from Megan Miranda, the instant New York Times bestselling author of All the Missing Girls, The Last to Vanish, and The Only Survivors.
"Miranda...exposes revelation after twisty revelation...Small-town claustrophobia and intimacies alike propel this twist-filled psychological thriller" (Kirkus Reviews, starred review).
When Hazel Sharp, daughter of Mirror Lake's longtime local detective, unexpectedly inherits her childhood home, she's warily drawn back to the town—and people—she left behind almost a decade earlier. But Hazel's not the only relic of the past to return: a drought has descended on the region, and as the water level in the lake drops, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge...including evidence that may help finally explain the mystery of her mother's disappearance.
Riveting and suspenseful, Daughter of Mine is Megan Miranda's best novel yet, filled with "delicious twists, dark secrets, and a deadly past" (Ashley Elston, New York Times bestselling author of First Lie Wins) that will keep you turning the pages late into the night.

The separate elements of this audio thriller sound standard-issue, but Megan Miranda grips you from the opening scene and never lets up. Hazel comes home to small-town North Carolina for her beloved father's memorial. Her brothers are both cops, as was their dad. The whole force would be at the gathering except that an old car has just surfaced in the drought-low water of the town lake. Empty, no plates. Is this something to do with Hazel's long-gone mother? Or some other submerged accident or crime? And why has the father left the family house to Hazel instead of to her older brothers? Ins del Castillo handles the text with quiet skill, never getting in the way, but masterfully building emotional tension. A terrific listen. B.G. © AudioFile 2024, Portland, Maine -

Hazel Sharp, the daughter of Mirror Lake's longtime detective, Perry Holt, unexpectedly inherits her father's home after his death. Not knowing why the house has been left only to her and not to her half-brothers, Hazel is drawn back to the drought-stricken town she left more than a decade ago after her beloved mother disappeared. As the lake dries up, hidden objects and secrets are revealed, including evidence that may lead to answers about Hazel's mother's disappearance. Miranda's (The Last House Guest) thrilling new novel oozes with a sense of foreboding, showcasing her trademark suspense while exploring the complexities of familial relationships. Narrator Ins del Castillo offers an atmospheric performance, implacably adding to the creeping dread as the water levels recede. The exploration of family dynamics makes this newest listen stand out from Miranda's other novels and may appeal to audiences seeking character-driven narratives. VERDICT With top-notch psychological suspense and carefully attuned narration, this novel will please Miranda's many fans. Recommended for fans of Nicci French's Has Anyone Seen Charlotte Salter? and Amy Engel's The Roanoke Girls.--Elyssa Everling
