PreS-Gr 2-In a charming ode to curiosity, an anonymous child questions and ponders a wide range of topics. From the shape of the moon to the sliminess of certain bugs, the effect of dropping an egg on the floor to the reasoning for wearing shoes over slippers, this child is eager to learn it all. Questions are directed to the child's parents, who employ the repeated refrain, "You wonder all the time." The story's conclusion affirms and extols the child's desire for knowledge and ends with a promise to always try to find the answers together. The main protagonist and family are white, while secondary characters are of different races and ethnicities; Zivion's colorful spreads depict the family in a variety of everyday settings. Back matter includes a letter to caregivers that describes the importance of children's questions and tips on how to nurture their curiosity. Pair with Michelle Garcia Andersen's The Owl Who Asks Why or Mac Barnett's Just Because for discussions and units on fostering imagination and seeking out answers. VERDICT. This sweet and celebratory rhyming story underscores the value of inquisitiveness, making it a solid addition to most collections.-Olivia Gorecke
